2014 Pastor and Teachers Retreat Provided Training and Spiritual Develpoment

The annual Pastors and Teachers Retreat this year featured Jon Paulien, professor of Religion at Loma Linda University. He shared the “The Stages of Surrender” and “The Stages of Faith.” Taking place at La Torretta Lake Resort and Spa, July 29 through 30, the retreat proved a blessing to all.

“Our goal is to spiritually and professionally strengthen our Texas Conference pastors and teachers as well as offer some downtime to spend with families for refreshing and renewal,” share Carlos Craig, president of the Texas Conference, Edwin Romero, treasurer for the Texas Conference, and Gary Brady, executive Secretary for the Texas Conference.

Edinburg Sabbath School Leadership Training Teaches Evangelism Skills

The Children’s Ministry department hosted a Sabbath School Leader’s Training in Edinburg English Church Sabbath, July 12. Basic Sabbath School skills, such as how to best relate with students, were taught.

Elders, Clerks and Communicators: Effective Leaders Meetings Complete

Elders, clerk, and communication directors finished their final of five trainings throughout the Texas Conference, last weekend. Each meeting taught leadership skills appropriate to succeed in each field. The final meeting had 250 people in attendance.

Each Week the Number of LWR Campers Grow, 11 Baptized

Tween week at Lake Whitney Ranch marks the biggest week of summer camp yet. Ninety-nine campers ages 12 through 14 registered. During junior week, directly before, 11 campers chose to be baptized.

ABC Camp Meeting Sales More than Double

The Adventist Book Center sold $7,500 worth of books and food at a recent camp meeting. That’s more than double of the sales from the same camp meeting last year, n the Southwest Region, according to Mickey Johnson, Keene ABC manager.

“It was a tremendous success,” says Johnson. “We were very blessed with our sales, and all this in just one long weekend.”

Lake Whitney Ranch "Cub-Campers" are First to Stay in New Lodges

Summer Camp started Sunday at Lake Whitney Ranch with 65 "cub-campers". That same day, June 15, construction on the new camp lodge finished, allowing staff and campers to move in.

Global Athletes Participate in Lake Whitney 2nd Annual Triathlon

Athletes from all over the world participated in the Lake Whitney Ranch 2nd annual triathlon, Sunday, June 8, 9:30 a.m.

One participant, Boris Hernandez, came all the way from El Salvador just for the race. Participants Ricardo and Cristina Dominguez traveled from Gentry, Arkansas. Brandon, Bryan, and Hilde Barrera drove seven hours from Weslaco, Texas. About 40 people participated in the “Super Sprint Triathlon.”

Hispanic Men's Retreat Last Weekend Teaches "La Guerra Continúa"

Hispanic men’s retreat proved an uplifting experience for all those involved. Taking place May 30 to June 1 in Midlothian, the retreat theme was La Guerra Continúa (The Battle Continues) and applied this idea to areas like marriage, family, and local ministries. Great music set the stage for each topic. Guest speakers were Pastor Minner Labrador, Church Ministries & Men's Ministries Director, SW Union, Pastor Carlos Craig, Texas Conference President, and Pastor Pablo Perez Maisonet, Chaplain Major, US Army, Killeen Military Base.

The mission of the Hispanic Men’s Ministry Department is to galvanize the energy and resources of men for God, family, church and community. The first Hispanic’s men retreat took place in 2008. There are also Men’s Ministry Rallies held throughout Texas. These events and retreats will continue to strengthen the spiritual lives of men and teach them to make a powerful impact for the Kingdom of God. FLAME Magazine Summer Edition is in the Mail

The summer editions of the FLAME, the Texas Conference magazine, will be in homes by the end of this week. In the issue, find out how Jason Busch, FLAME editor, found a deeper connection with God while eating at the Waffle House. Learn a few helpful hints to live out your faith at your children’s sporting events, and enjoy a delicious recipe for shish kabobs. A number of article echo the theme of power of choice and how to live a fulfilling life.

Elders, Clerks and Communicators: Becoming More Effective Leaders

Elders came together for the Texas Conference Elder’s Gathering in Edinburg on May 17th. Curch clerk training and Communication Directors workshops were held concurrently at the first of five training sessions scheduled around the Conference. This event is intended to not only train, but also to inspire church leaders. Nearly 200 people attended the first meeting.
Elder topics included, “How to be an End Time Leader”, “Leadership Through Conflict”, and “How to Process Conflict.”
Communication directors discussed how to communicate and connect with their local churches, conference, and community. Clerks received eAdventist training as well as updates on reporting baptisms and changes in local church leadership positions.
The next meeting will be held June 7, in Houston. After that, meetings will be held on June 21 at the San Marcos Church, June 28 at the Dallas First Church, and June 29 at the Tyler Church. You won’t want to miss it! To register visit,, or
