Celebrating History at the Alamo | GC Session 2015
7/4/2015

The simple phrase, “Remember the Alamo” symbolizes courage, independence, and honor. It was here in 1836 that a band of men numbering barely over two hundred stood in defiance to an army of almost two thousand. Able to hold for thirteen days and giving the Texan army the time it needed to prepare for the Mexican Army, the men who gave their lives at the Alamo are remember as heroes. One of those men was David Crockett, and a descendant of his has returned to that renowned Spanish mission.

Ryan McCoy, a fifth great-grandson of Congressman David Crockett, was one of three individuals dressed in historically-accurate clothing who read the United States Declaration of Independence aloud to a crowd of patriotic listeners. McCoy, a Seventh-day Adventist who was in San Antonio for the 60th General Conference Session, said that he had been asked to take part by the Alamo staff after notifying them that he would be in San Antonio.
