Pathfinders Hold Inaugural Camporee at Lake Whitney Ranch
Wednesday, April 07, 2010

On Sabbath, April 2 church members joined Texas Conference officers and more than 3,500 Pathfinders and staff for an open house and dedication program at Lake Whitney Ranch. The Texas Conference is developing youth camp facilities on the propery. The April 2 dedication event marked the first youth ministries event held on the property. It is the first of three club ministry camporees to be held on the site this year.

Visitors were given tours of the Lake Whitney Ranch property and shown the areas that will be developed. Pathfinders participated in a variety of activities throughout the weekend, including a church service on Sabbath. During the afternoon Pathfinder drill teams gave demonstrations for the guests.

During the dedication ceremony Texas Conference leaders acknowledged God’s leading in the acquisition of such an ideal property for conference events and activities as well as success in securing the necessary permits. Current and former youth leaders were also acknowledged at the event, several of whom spoke to the significance of youth ministry and importance of a youth camp facility.

Adventurer, Pathfinder and Master Guide directors gave presentations during the dedication ceremony. Each outlined the growth of their ministries and expressed the benefits Lake Whitney Ranch will provide. The property’s size and infrastructure will accommodate a growing and vibrant Texas Conference Youth Ministries Department. At full capacity, Lake Whitney Ranch will accommodate 5,000 campers in its six pavilions.
