Adventist Community Service Volunteers Respond to Hurricane Alex
Thursday, July 29, 2010

Texas Adventist Community Services Disaster Response volunteers distributed pre-packaged clothing outfits, personal care kits and blankets in Rio Bravo, Texas. On Sunday, July 11, 2010  ACS volunteers from the Edinburg and Laredo Churches helped over 200 people who lost their homes due to the flooding following Hurricane Alex.

The third Mobile Distribution Unit has been placed in the Valley at the request of the Edinburg Church. Church members repaired and painted it and the Texas Conference ACS provided supplies. This will allow rapid first response to disasters in the Rio Grande Valley area. Hurricane Alex provided the first opportunity for them to serve with that unit and it was a great success.

The mayor of Rio Bravo was most appreciative of their services. A Texas Department of Public Safety officer was waiting for their arrival at the edge of town to escort them to the distribution site and help them get the truck placed.
