Putting Bibles Behind Bars
Tuesday, May 18, 2010

A total of 3,458 students enrolled in Bible Studies, almost half of them are in Texas prisons, the rest are from about 550 jails and other prisons through out the country with about 90 more requesting Bibles Studies each week according to June Stanley.

Recently Stanley become involved in a joint effort between the Grandview Seventh-day Adventist Church and the Keene SDA Church by helping to grade dozens of lessons sent from inmates. The need for people to grade the lessons became so great that Marcia Saunders got June and Joyce Beaupre (pictured here) to help out, all are members of the Grandview Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The ladies love doing this but they are just a small part of the program called “New Discovery Bible School.” The Keene Church spends over a thousand dollars each month on stamps alone mailing lessons to students.

“Some of the inmates that are requesting the Bible Studies do not even own a Bible,” says June, “there are others thatare visually impaired and need large print Bibles in order to complete their studies.”

Seeing the need and a chance to do something positive for these inmates, June is sponsoring a huge garage sale in Keene on May the 23rd in front of the “ABC” Book Store locate on Old Betsy Rd. (CR 2280) at the shopping center.

If you wish to donate useable “garage sale items”, or make a cash donation, please contact June Stanley: 254-854-0624.
